Staff meets you at your Aswan hotel lobby at 8:00AM for a day of adventure. Sail the Nile by Felucca (native wind powered sailboat), ride a camel to 7th century monastery ruins, visit antiquity sites on Elephantine Island plus stroll the pathways of the beautiful Botanical gardens on Kitchener's island. Enjoy a Nubian lunch. Tour ends about 4PM.
NOTE: if there is no wind the river crossings will be by motor launch.
St. Simeons: about a 15 minute camel ride from the west side of the Nile this was
a major monastery in early Christian days with as many as 1000 monks in residence.
The ruins offer a good idea of what life was like for them.
Elephantine Island: Site of a number of temples and a Nilometer it was the southern guardian gate for Egypt in ancient times.
Botanical gardens on Kitchener's Island: The island was given to Lord Kitchener as a thank-you for his services in the Sudan Campaign (1896-1898). Kitchener rapidly transformed the island into a paradise of exotic trees and plants and carefully planned walkways.
